Meet Isabel Cecilia Calkins

FINALLY! She arrived three days early on Sunday morning at 11:33 am.

Isabel Cecilia Calkins
7 lbs, .05 oz
20 inches (although today at the doctor, she was 21 inches, funny!)

Labor was no walk in the park, but it went ok. I went sans epidural (no drugs, what the hell!) and was glad I did. I think it helped my recovery and I was able to get up and walk around soon after. However, I am not sure I am going to do that again any time soon. :)
Jeremy and I are trying to adjust to the "no sleep" thing, but I am sure we'll figure it out. I finally got to take a shower and put on deodorant today, that was a treat! HA. I am sure it will be quite a while before I put on makeup, but not trying to impress anyone anytime soon.

Hanging out at Home

So far, no baby. This has been my first week of "vacation" and so far it has consisted of me hanging out at home and reading Pillars of the Earth. Venturing too far from home or spending too much time on my feet leaves me totally pooped and tired. Baby is extremely low and causing a lot of achiness. I'm a big whiner, I know. But I'll be happy when the kiddo decides to evacuate!

The Mom's came over yesterday and did some wonderful work around the condo. My mom planted some gorgeous plants out back and it makes me happy now to look outside and see some color. I'm terrible with plants and so I was happy to have someone who knows what they are doing take over. Jeremy's mom did a fantastic job scrubbing the baby's bathroom, it hasn't been used in 5 years. It looks great now and I think I might venture out to Target today to find a bathroom rug. Thrilling, I know. :)

First Day of Vacation

So far, so good. Except for morning TV. It really sucks. Miss K and I watched a little bit of Animal Planet, but then she got bored and walked away. I think she likes Jeremy more than me- she could care less when I am home. But when J is around, she tries to get his attention as much as possible. Yesterday Jeremy found her in the baby bassinet, just hanging out. Granted, there was a big fluffy down comforter sitting on top of it- and we all know that if a blanket is out, she assumes it is for her. It will be a rude awakening when Baby Calkins shows up, that is for sure.

Vacation at Last!

Well even though I am technically on vacation, I know its not really a vacation. I am just biding my time before our little one arrives. Today was major construction day around our place, Jeremy worked on securing furniture and shelves to the walls and I put together the sheets and stuff on the crib. Things are coming along, now all we have to do is sit and wait!

Check Up Today

All is well- I went in today for a check up and I measured at 37 cm, which is great. Baby's heartbeat sounded good too and Dr. Dorcas was pleased with everything else. I'd like to attribute my belly growth to the Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwich I had before I went in today, and maybe Baby is getting a little fatter too.

Throwing Elbows at the Coach Store

Today my mom and I went up to the Tulalip Outlet Mall past Marysville to visit the Coach store and find a birthday present for my sister. I thought I would get a jump on it this year since I may be a wee bit busy around May 4th. When we got there, it was pure pandamonium in the store. They were having an "Additional 30% off" Sale in the store and there were ladies everywhere with 5 or 6 handbags in their hands.

I realized fast that you had to be quick, if you liked something you saw, you had to grab it before it was gone to someone else. I had grabbed the last of the bag my sister wanted and felt slightly guilty when the gal behind me wanted the bag I had snagged. Tough cookies, sister. Don't mess with the preggo!

Jeremy and The Mom's painted the baby's room this weekend and it looks fantastic! They did a great job and now we are moving stuff back into the room. Problem is, we have so much stuff and not a lot of storage. It is slightly overwhelming and starting to get a wee bit cluttered. Don't you wish sometimes that the magic moving fairies would come in and take all the clutter away!

5 More Days of Work!

Yahooo! I haven't felt this excited for a "break" since school days! It feels like I am going on summer vacation soon, except at the end of it, I will have a little human I have to be responsible for. Eeek.

I think the baby has "dropped" which just means it is getting ready and "locked and loaded". To me, it means a lot more waddling around and achy hips. Dr. Dorcas measured me this week and apparently I have not grown the requisite 1 cm since last week (I was measuring at 35 cm last week and again this week) so if I don't grow a little more next week, then I'll have to get an ultrasound check up. Nothing to worry about really, the Doc just wants to make everything is ok. Baby is still moving like a ninja, so I am not too worried. My next appointment is on Wednesday, so let's think big, shall we?

Belly Dancing

Give it about 30 seconds- I'm sorry I can't edit these videos very well. Also, if you have speakers, you can tell I'm watching the Barefoot Contessa in the background. :)

Thanks for the Memories, Pepe

Sadly, my little Jeep Pepe was turned in today for a little VW Rabbit. Well, I'm not too sad as the Rabbit is a COOL car, with better gas mileage than Pepe and a lower insurance rate. But alas, Pepe was a good car and served his purpose well during snowboarding season and the crazy times that it snowed in Seattle. So as we move on through life, one change leads to another.

Cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs

Last night Jeremy and I were watching this show on the Food Network and it was all about breakfast cereal. For the life of me, all I could think about for the next hour was eating a big fat bowl of Cocoa Puffs. So today, after my swim class I went over to Fred Meyer and bought three boxes of cereal. When I arrived home with my goodies in tow, I had discovered that Jeremy also went to the grocery store to get me cereal. We now have five big boxes of cereal in our house.

This past weekend we attended the Varsity Boat Club banquet over at the UW. It was a nice evening in which they honored the 1948, 1958 and 1998 crews. It was nice to be recognized and see some old friends. I do have to say- seeing all those young'uns getting ready for the spring rowing season made me feel my age a little more. Especially knowing that I am now in the stage of my life where I am worrying more about babies and such and not getting up every morning to go out and row.

The countdown is on- 29 days to go! I pre-registered at the hospital today and it makes it all the more real knowing that one day soon I'm gonna be running into the hospital getting ready to pop a kid out.
